Trumpets
Bb - 1989 Bach Stradivarius 37
My parents purchased this horn for me in my last year of high school. It was the only Bb I played for over 10 years, so it has a lot of hours on it. The silver plate has worn away in spots, and I ordered a set of Paua Abalone Fingerbuttons to replace the originals.
Bb - 1970s Yamaha 634
I purchased this instrument as a lightweight companion to the Bach. With the styles I typically play today, it has become my primary Bb. It is a nice 3-tone horn (yellow brass body, nickel silver trim, rose brass bell), with a reverse leadpipe.
Bb - 1950s Olds Studio(LA)
Olds horns are great! This one is in (almost) raw brass and plays pretty well, I use it as a teaching horn. After a student dinged my Bach during a lesson, I thought it was time to purchase a good playing, yet cosmetically challenged horn. Someday I'd like to own a more "mint" version of this horn.
D/Eb - 1950s Besson Brevette
This is a beautiful vintage lacquer horn in very good condition. I bought it from a widow that had been trying to sell it for years, waiting for the right home. I don't use it very often, but every once in a while, it's just the ticket for a gig.
A/Bb Piccolo - Getzen Eterna 940
Every trumpet player wants a picc. They are, however, extremely hard to play well! This one is in silver plate and plays great (better on the A side).
Eb Alto - Kuhnl & Hoyer
This is a large nickel plate alto trumpet. It is extremely difficult to find an alto trumpet in Eb, there are very few makers. This one came with no mouthpiece, and I'm still searching for a good one. I hope to refurbish this instrument into a real player and use it for jazz.
Cornets/Flugelhorn
Cornet - 1950s Conn Connstellation 37/38A
Heavy. This horn is mostly solid nickel, may have a solid copper bell, and is silver plate to boot. It is in excellent condition, the valves are my favorite. Reportedly, it has a gargantuan .483" bore.
Cornet - 1950s Olds Studio(LA)
I got this for a steal, as a companion to my Studio trumpet. I had the mouthpiece receiver customized to fit a modern cornet mouthpiece. It has a beautiful tone, but no intonation aids.
Flugelhorn - 1960s? Elkhart
My understanding is that these are relabelled flugels by Couesnon. This one is in silver with bottom-sprung valves. I have had it since I bought it in high school.
Other Horns
Horn - DEG Caravelle Compensating Double
This beast is hard to play in tune, but I really wanted a double and this is what my pocketbook dictated. I use it to teach, and am sometimes called upon to play a gig.
Trombone - 1960s Olds Special (Fullerton)
Did I mention that Olds horns are great? This is the horn that won me over. The craftsmanship is amazing, and as old and worn as it is, the slide is still smoother than most of my students' horns.
Bass Guitar
2005 Fender Jazz 24
I just recently upgraded to this from my old Fender Squier I purchased in high school. I haven't put it through its paces much, but am looking forward to it!
