About JeremyThough Jeremy was anxious to play the trumpet as a toddler, his parents made him wait until the age of nine to begin his brass career. He passed the time, listening to the stereo and noodling on various instruments in the house. He went on to attend a performing arts high school in Silicon Valley before earning his B.M. from Berklee College of Music in Boston. Jeremy spent several years in Los Angeles before moving to Sacramento, where he finds himself very much in demand as musician and educator.PerformerAs a young musician, Jeremy was given the opportunity to perform in diverse ensembles. He held top chairs in both state and local honor bands, served in the San Jose Youth Symphony and Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps, freelanced, and performed solos with the Almaden Chamber Orchestra. His efforts and diligent practice earned him a scholarship to attend Berklee. There, he served in many of the performing groups, including principal trumpet of the wind ensemble. An experienced jazz musician, Jeremy appeared in Los Angeles with the Verdugo Swing Society and Glen Roberts Big Band, playing both lead and solo trumpet. He also worked with Hot House 5, a nouveau swing combo. Since his move to Sacramento, Jeremy has enjoyed success in musical theatre and has begun performing with Chicago Tribute Authority and the Moonlight Swing Big Band.EducatorJeremy’s teaching philosophy nurtures the whole musician as he guides students to find their own voice. He began teaching privately while still in college, and continues to enjoy working one-on-one with students, several of whom have led honor bands at both state and local levels. As a high school director, Jeremy led the marching, concert, and jazz bands, taught music theory, and developed a pioneering band course designed for low-income students with little or no exposure to music. Jeremy’s outreach activities include brass instruction and clinics at local schools, elementary through college-level.Conductor/DirectorJeremy began his conducting career when he was appointed Student Conductor in high school. During college, he served as Assistant Conductor of the Berklee Concert Wind Ensemble and worked as Musical Director for Boston University Stage Troupe. As a student, Jeremy founded and directed the Bolt Jazz Orchestra, a cooperative for composers and was asked to lead several senior recitals/projects. In Sacramento, he has served as Musical Director and Conductor for several musicals by Runaway Stage Productions, an award-winning theatre company. In the near future, Jeremy hopes to continue his study of conducting in a graduate program.Composer/ArrangerJeremy began arranging music for his high school marching band, and smaller ensembles. Having an avid interest in creating music at this level, he received the Peter Kaleta Scholarship and earned his B.M. in Jazz Composition. During his career, he has written music for film, small and large jazz ensemble, band, orchestra, choir, and rock ensemble. Jeremy has taught theory and composition to students of all levels, one successful student going on to attend the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy. |
